Haverhill-Bath Covered Bridge - NH
This project was undertaken using a very unique tension type shoring system. This 256 foot bridge is a town lattice truss with arches and spans 256 feet over the Ammonoosuc River. The restoration included extensive replacements of rotten and broken truss members, 50% replacement of needle beams, complete reconstruction and replacement of 5 out of the 8 arch ends at their bearings, and choice replacements of floor beams, tie beams, bearing beams, rafters, and bracing components.
The bridge also received all new floor decking and siding, along with a new standing seam metal roof and a No-Char fire retardant coating. The north and south abutments, along with the center pier received new concrete caps. The bridge suffered from both a sweep and lean of the trusses and arches towards the sidewalk. The sweep was removed and the trusses and arches where plumbed and reshaped to their original geometry.
